In this feature film comedy, the manager of an exotic pet store, Lenny Fritz, has a yearning for another career.  His dream is to be a "private eye".

Lenny constantly bugs his neighbor Rick Ferral, a real private investigator, to let him work on a case.  Rick doesn't think nice-guy Lenny has what it takes for his rough and tumble world.  One day, Rick asks Lenny to watch his office and feed his pet lizard, "I gotta blow town for awhile".

Pretending to be a private eye, Lenny sits behind Rick's desk and acts out the part when in walks Kim Navarro, a poster pinup beauty, "The Power Tool Girl".  She is terribly upset over her brother Nick's disappearance.  Lenny doesn't have the heart to tell her that Rick is out of town and won't be back 'til who knows when.  So, Lenny masquerades as Rick to help the poor girl find her brother.  A simple missing person case, how hard could it be?

Murder, intrigue and funny business ensue as the bumbling Lenny, some of his oddball friends and Kim try to outwit the Russian Mafia, the police and other strange characters.
